Fifteen Over The Limit

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Grand Ducal Police carried out an alcohol check in northern Luxembourg that caught fifteen motorists over the limit out of 295 tested[1].

The operation ran from 00:30 to 04:30 on the N27A near Friedhof, at the level of ZANO, in the northbound direction. It was conducted at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

Of the fifteen positive tests, nine resulted in official reports and six in fines. Six driving licences were confiscated on the spot. One driver refused to take the test altogether and still lost their licence. Another was found to be both intoxicated and under the influence of drugs, while also driving without a valid licence[2].

Police also recorded twelve other road traffic offences during the check. Two reports were issued for driving without valid insurance, and two more after passengers were found in possession of drugs.

That is a 5% hit rate for alcohol across nearly 300 motorists in a four-hour window on a single road. Not a bad night's work for the northern police.
