Solar Fire
A fire broke out at the Indorama Ventures industrial facility on Rue Schwarzenhof in Steinfort on Saturday afternoon, triggering a significant emergency response. The incident was first reported around 1pm, when emergency services were alerted to heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the roof.
The fire originated outside the building and affected solar panels installed on the roof. Georges Comes, Commandant of Rescue Operations, led the response and confirmed the flames were rapidly extinguished. Firefighters used an aerial platform to inspect the roof and established the fire involved photovoltaic panels. The flames did not spread into the building itself.
No injuries were reported. No personnel were present at the factory at the time, as staff were on leave. Approximately forty firefighters from several regional fire and rescue centres responded, with drones deployed to survey the affected area.
As a precaution, residents of Steinfort received a warning SMS via the LU-Alert system. The alert was issued as a preventive measure, given the smoke and the proximity of the fire to residential areas. Teams remained at the site to monitor for possible flare-ups or hidden embers beneath the roof.
Solar panels on factory roofs: clean energy, but not without risk.
