Maacher

Samantha Seil has been president of the Union Commerciale et Artisanale de Grevenmacher (UCAG) since 2021. She is not, in her own words, a child of sadness. Ahead of the braderie, the annual street fair in Grevenmacher, she spoke about the town she represents and what makes it worth a visit.[1]

"Because of the many bargains you can find," she said, when asked why people should come to the braderie on Sunday. "Some visitors arrive at 9am, before the official opening at 10am, to get the best selection. Of course you should also come for the regional products and the good atmosphere, the typical Moselle flair, in the three axes of the pedestrian zone, and the many restaurants. Two of them offer a direct view of the Moselle. Many visitors who come for the first time say: Wow! Grevenmacher is a city where you can do more than just shop."[1]

Grevenmacher is a town on the Moselle, about 30 kilometres east of Luxembourg City. It has a pedestrian zone with three axes, restaurants with a view of the river, and a business association president who calls her merchants "the coolest business people in Luxembourg". The braderie is on Sunday. The doors open at 10am, but the early ones come at 9. Five days ago, the Ehnen Wine Festival opened on the same river, 20 kilometres north. The Moselle is 545 kilometres long, and along its banks, in July, there are festivals. Grevenmacher has its braderie. Ehnen has its wine. Both are on the Moselle. Both are this week. The river is low this summer, the water levels hit record lows earlier this month, the corn is half gone and the apples are burning. But the braderie is on Sunday, and the bargains are there at 9am, and two restaurants have a view of the river, and the president of the business association is not a child of sadness.[1]
