Before the Ambulance

At around 3pm on Thursday, a woman gave birth on the street in the Nonnewisen neighbourhood of Esch-sur-Alzette. By the time the ambulance arrived, the baby had already been born. Both mother and child were subsequently taken to hospital. No further details were provided by the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS).[1]

This is not the first time such an event has occurred in Luxembourg. Three years ago, a woman experienced a similar situation at the Schueberfouer, suddenly giving birth on Glacis in Luxembourg City on a Saturday evening. In that case, too, the baby was delivered without any medical assistance.[1]

The ambulance was on its way. The baby did not wait. The street in Nonnewisen became a delivery room for a few minutes, and then it was a street again. The mother and child are in hospital. The CGDIS said no more. Three years ago, the same thing happened at a funfair on a Saturday night. The details are different. The story is the same. The baby arrives when it arrives.[1]
