Phuket

On October 27, 2025, three men dressed as delivery couriers arrived at a property in Eschweiler, Luxembourg. They were pretending to drop off flowers. What followed was anything but a delivery.

The men threatened a Luxembourg couple with a firearm and a knife, demanding 300,000 euros. In the end, they left with 9,000 euros in cash, a watch, and credit cards. A violent home invasion, planned and executed with a veneer of normalcy.[1]

This week, the last of the three suspects was arrested. A 28-year-old French national was detained on the Thai island of Phuket, nearly 9,000 kilometres from the scene of the crime. He had been wanted on an international arrest warrant. The public prosecutor's office confirmed the arrest to RTL, with the Luxemburger Wort first reporting the story.[1]

The other two suspects were arrested in Paris in January and extradited to Luxembourg. The trio's trail thus spanned three countries: Luxembourg, France, and Thailand. It is a reminder that organized crime, even when it targets a single home in a quiet Luxembourg village, does not respect borders. It also a reminder that international cooperation, through arrest warrants and extradition treaties, does eventually catch up with those who try to disappear.

Phuket is a long way from Eschweiler. But not far enough.
