Thirteen

Between Friday evening and Saturday morning, thirteen people were injured on Luxembourg's roads in a series of accidents that stretched emergency services across the country.[1]

The most serious incident happened just before 1 AM on Saturday. Two cars collided on the A3 motorway between the Berchem service area and Livange. Emergency crews from Luxembourg City, Bettembourg, Reiserbann, and Schifflange all attended. Six people were injured, four of whom were taken to hospital for further checks. The A3 was partially closed towards France between the Gasperich interchange and Livange.[1]

Before that, Friday evening brought six separate accidents in different parts of the country. At 5 PM, two cars collided on Rue Hiehl in Junglinster. Half an hour later, a car crashed on the CR134 between Manternach and Mertert. At 5:45 PM, a tractor and a bicycle collided on Route de Bettembourg in Livange. Almost simultaneously, two more accidents occurred: one on the N7 between Colmar-Berg and Schieren, another on the N11 between Sanem and Soleuvre. A sixth accident happened shortly before 8 PM on the CR339 between Beckerich and Ell.[1]

Thirteen injuries in one night is not a record for Luxembourg, but it is a reminder that the country's road network, despite being well-maintained and heavily monitored, sees a disproportionate number of incidents for its size. The A3 in particular, connecting Luxembourg City to the French border, is one of the busiest stretches in the country. A partial closure on a Saturday morning, at the start of a holiday weekend, means significant disruption for cross-border commuters and travellers alike.
